COURSE DESCRIPTION
The BTEC Level 2 Certificate in, ‘The Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff’, provides learners with a great opportunity to help their local area, achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification, and progress in a career within the pharmacy sector.
As a Pharmacy Assistant, students can progress to a career in many different roles across different settings, including registered pharmacies, doctors’ practices, and mental health practices. Pharmacy Assistants play a key role in supporting the work of pharmacy professionals, in providing safe and effective pharmacy services.
Throughout this course, learners will develop their fundamental technical skills, along with appropriate attitudes and behaviours that will support their personal success within their career. Furthermore, it will develop the student’s interpersonal skills in order to support their progression and success in further study and career advancement.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND SUITABILITY
In order to be accepted onto the course you must:
- Good English, Maths and ICT skills
- Voluntary Placement for 14 hours a week (The College will assist in finding placements)
QUALIFICATION DELIVERY
This qualification is delivered online, through a combination of live classes and learning resources. Each student is assigned a personal assessor and our online classes give them the opportunity to discuss their studies with other learners whilst receiving advice, guidance, and support from an experienced pharmacy professional.

As a Pharmacy Assistant, students can progress to a career in many different roles across different settings. These can include registered pharmacies, community services, the Prison Service, GP practices, dispensing doctors’ practices, care homes and clinical commissioning groups, hospitals, mental health practices – along with other sectors within the pharmaceutical industry. They can also progress on to our Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Qualification and will be eligible to apply for professional registration with the GPhC as a pharmacy technician on completion.

Pharmacy Assistant, Level 2 students will have to do a minimum of 14 hours a week in a work placement

Our goal is to secure a placement for you within a reasonable one-hour travel distance from your home. Additionally, we encourage you to proactively reach out to potential employers in your local area, as this proactive approach can significantly enhance your chances of finding a suitable placement more swiftly.
The matter of payment between you and your employer is a private arrangement, and the college does not intervene in this regard. It’s worth noting that different employers have varying policies when it comes to payments. Some may begin paying you right from the start, while others may require you to learn the basic roles before initiating payment. This is something you can discuss during your interview process.

Students need to have English and Maths at GCSE level or equivalent (Level 1 qualification) whether this is from the UK or EU. All qualifications from abroad need to be translated into English before the student can enrol
If you do not have English and Maths at GCSE level or equivalent (Level 1 qualification) we do provide BKSB assessments in English and Maths (at a small fee) to cover this requirement

- Photo ID (Passport)
- Proof of Address (dated in the last 3 months)
- Visa Status either a British Passport, BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) which is dated for after the end of the course duration or a Share Code (if you are from Europe)
- NI Number (National Insurance Number) or right to work in the UK documentation
- Certificates of your previous qualifications (qualifications from abroad must be converted)
- UK Naric statement of comparability (for converted qualification from abroad)
- Up to date CV (Curriculum Vitae)
- Health Declaration (This is a letter written and signed by you which states that you are fit, healthy and have no medical conditions which will affect your completion of the course)
- Character References (A testimony written by the referee would be preferred, it would also need to include their Job title, contact number and email address (if they have a GPhC registration number they must include this as well). Please note that the referee cannot be a family member. This person must have known you for at least 6 months or more
There are a few other fees that are separate from the course fee. They are Deposit Fee and Awarding Body Registration Fee. There is also a fee for the BKSB Assessments:
